Through minimalist design technique with the spirit of universal design, Sun Bathed Greenery stands out as a relaxing modern residence. The black, beige, and grey-scale color scheme without superfluous decoration creates a tranquil atmosphere. The large-area windows allow maximum natural lighting and offer a vista of the green park in front of the building. The open design of the public domain allows natural lighting and ventilation to enhance the flowing space.
In order to achieve an elegant and warm space, the design team utilized smooth steel-brushed timber veneer, special paint, marble-patterned artificial masonry slate, and imported tiles. The entrance is treated with masonry slates, while the ceiling features a dark walnut pattern. The living room showcases a TV wall with imported wall tiles and black metalwork, creating clean lines. The vista wall is treated with special paint and LED strips, adding a touch of sophistication.
Upon entering the residence, visitors are greeted by a half-transparent space defined by a timber grille. The ultra scratch-proof timber floor leads the eye to the hand-swiped viewing wall of special paint, which exhibits glistering dark green and light grey colors. LED strips are strategically placed to enhance the layered visual effect.
The design of Sun Bathed Greenery promotes interaction and functionality. The removal of the original partition wall connects the study and living room visually and acoustically, while allowing sunlight to flow throughout the interior. The interior also serves as a yoga room and study, catering to the client's lifestyle.
The project was completed in October 2018 in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. The design team focused on creating a warm ambiance with timber floors and an open-plan layout. The kitchen features an island bench-top for storage and light meal preparation. The dining area is furnished with dark walnut-themed furniture, complemented by geometric paintings collected by the client. The sofa back wall adds a unique sense of visual layers and improves the overall interior circulation, while the master bedroom is cleverly concealed.
The design of Sun Bathed Greenery posed several challenges. The viewing wall at the entrance required special paint treatment to become a visual focus, which involved extensive discussions and trial work with on-site craftsmen. The dark walnut-patterned corridor ceiling also required multiple adjustments to achieve optimal finishing quality.
With the inspiration drawn from the client's experiences in boutique hotels and living abroad, the design team aimed to create a reserved yet culturally enriched residential space. The public domain with large-area windows and a view of greenery, combined with a refined layout strategy, is free from unnecessary decorations. The private domain provides a warm and relaxing resting quarter.
The design of Sun Bathed Greenery was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that incorporate best practices in art, science, design, and technology. Sun Bathed Greenery exemplifies strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
